Madekwe comes from the mixed race family of South London in England. Her father is Nigerian-Swiss as is her mom who's English. Her family was raised in a council estate south of London. When she was fourteen, she was enrolled at The Brit School. The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art is where she obtained an acting BA. While at school she appeared in numerous stage plays, including King Henry V's Princess Katherine as well as Wuthering Heights.
Madekwe started her acting career with a film titled Storm Damage. In the following years, she appeared in Teachers, Doctors Casualty and Drop Dead Gorgeous. Madekwe's breakthrough came in 2007's Woody Allen film Cassandra's Dream. It was opposite Colin Farrell (who played the part of Cassandra) as well as Ewan McGrath. After this success, Madekwe was cast as Elisha in The BBC Three drama pilot West 10 LDN as well as for six seasons Trexx as well as Flipside. She also was offered the part in the role of Bambi in the ITV2 drama series Secret Diary of a Call Girl, appearing in three and two series. Madekwe made her US debut with The Beautiful Life in 2009. The show ran just two episodes on The CW, and was then cancelled. She was cast in February 2011 in the role of Ashley Davenport on the ABC drama Revenge. Madekwe appeared in all episodes of the show's second season as an regular. However, in May 2013, the news broke that Madekwe will quit the show due to her appearance as a guest on the opening episode for its third season. From 2014 until 2016, she starred in Salem on the CW as Tituba. Madekwe, her longtime partner, Iddo, married Madekwe in June 2012. The two have collaborated in the show Secret Diary of a Call Girl as well as he is also a part of the cast on the show Salem.

Ashley Leggat was born in Hamilton, Ontario, into a large, extended family. Her parents Roy and Patty along with the four brothers of her, Brett, Todd, and Bram who were also present. Ashley lived in stadiums or baseball parks because her four athletic brothers all played baseball, hockey, and both in the winter and summer. Ashley had never been able to walk. She was a dancer. When she reached 2 and a 1/2 and a half, she began to take part in Baby Ballet. It was then that she discovered Ashley's passion for dance. Ashley was a competitive dancer across all major divisions until she finished high school. She was a competitor in ballet, tap, jazz, pointe and acrobatics. Ashley was awarded the best soloist at each of the most prestigious dance competitions like, International Dance Challenge, Showstoppers 5-7-8 Showtime, Flash Dance, and Dance, Dance, Dance to name a few.
