
DeWitt started performing on stage at the age of 13. DeWitt graduated from Ball State University with a Bachelor's of Arts. The director recommended that she apply to UCLA's Department of Theater MFA program. She was awarded the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship, as well as the Clifton Webb Scholarship. Dewitt stated that she had never met the actor Abe Vigoda while she was at UCLA. She worked as secretary during her time at UCLA. DeWitt is well-known for her performance as Janet Wood during the 1977-1984 run of sitcom Three's Company, a job she was offered after being cast in the show's second pilot. Janet was also featured in an episode of The Ropers in 1979. DeWitt was the last actor to be featured in the show's 1984 finale. She also appeared in an episode of Finder of Lost Lovers in 1984. After that, she stopped acting for a number of years. She made her return on stage in the month of June in 1991 in which she appeared in an Noises Off production in Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse. [1] Later she was a part of the TV comedy Spring Fling! Pinky and the Brain aired in 1997, and featured a character based upon her. The voice actor was another actress. She was featured in the episode Cybill and made an appearance in the penultimate episode of Living Single. Her TV shows of the 2000s included Hope Island and The Nick at Nite Holiday Special as along with Call of the Wild.
