Before becoming an actress, she started modeling as a child model. She was awarded the Theatre World Award in 1956-57 for her performance in The Potting Shed. Lynley's film career began in 1958 with the Disney film The Light in the Forest. Holiday for Lovers (1959), Blue Denim (1959) followed. She was nominated in the year 1959 for the Golden Globe Award as Most Promising Female Newcomer - Female. The following year she was again nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Most Promising Newcomer - Female for the film Blue Denim.
